Social Media Dominates

Nine hundred million hours! That's the number of hours Americans spend on social media sites each month. Pretty interesting I'd say. Neilsen Wire published statistics this month that show the top 10 internet sectors by share of time Americans spend there.

Social media use increased 43% over the last 12 months. However, email use is still number 3 from the top, but it's use declined 28%. Online game use had the number two spot.

For a new business, this presents a very clear case for incorporating some social media into a marketing strategy. Plus it's evidence that email use remains as a major communications tool. So email newsletters are still relevant.
